Most of cats do not like traveling. Even if we don’t prefer to do, we have to travel within our country by land, rail or air with our pet friends. This situaions creates stress for them as well as for us. Travels in our country with public transports have certain rules although there’re little differences according to the traveling way. Traveling by Air: One of the most preferred methods is air travel. Air transport companies have brought some limitations to this. If we want totravel with our cat takeing it into the cabin of the plane it, airlines are looking for a condition of not exceeding 8 kilos when weighing our kit together with the carrying bag (limitations of + 1-2 kg can be welcomed). Your cat's carrying case size shouldn’t be more than 23x40x55 cms (try not to pass these measures even though there is no strict control). Otherwise, the air waybill will not accept your cat for traveling in the cabin and will provide travel in the cargo area. You have to make a reservation for your cat by calling Airline at least 15 days before the flight. The medical report indicating that your cat is suitable for travel prepared by the veterinarian for air travel of your cat is required together with Health Carnet that shows all vaccines, especially the rabies vaccine. Also, if your cat is flustered and excited during the travel, you can use sedative medicines prescribed by your veterinarian. Traveling by Bus: The possibilities of traveling by bus with your cat are certained by your bilateral interviews with the traveling company, the driver of the bus and the assistant driver. Some companies may allow travelling in the bus with you, while others may require your cat to travel in luggage compartment. We never advise traveling in the luggage compartment because it would be too risky for your cat’s health as well as ruining your cat’s psychology. Your kitten may need to be sedated by the veterinarian using appropriate dose during long and traumatic travels. Also, Traveling companies can request from you for our pet friends Health Carnet especially proved the rabies vaccine and veterinary health report. Traveling by Railway: The trains are the ideal choice for public transport in our country for your cat. Our pet friend should not make excessive noise in the train. If you want to take a separate seat with yours, TCDD applies 50% discount. Also, they require that sizes of the carrying box should be suitable carrying on the knee. Beside the above conditions, it’s necessary that all vaccinations have been made, especially with rabies vaccine and to have a medical report be prepared by the veterinarian and indicates that your pet friend has not had any negative situation for the travel.
